December starts off without a hitch as Amazon Prime Video releases "Candy Cane Lane" Holiday Film.

This holiday season is starting off without a hitch as Amazon Prime Video is releasing its new Holiday Film “Candy Lane Lane” starring Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross.
The film is directed by Reginald Hudlin, written by Kelly Younger and Produced by Eddie Murphy, Charisse M. Hewitt, Karen Lunder and Brian Grazer.
The film’s premise is: A local neighborhood hosts an annual contest over who has the best decorated home for Christmas; desperate to win, Chris Carver makes a deal with a charismatic stranger, Pepper, for the use of magic to make his home the most festive. He soon learns that Pepper is an evil elf who has made similar deals in the past, with her victims being transformed into plastic dolls. Chris must rally his family to stop Pepper from unleashing misery upon his friends and neighbors and break the deal before he loses everything.
This storyline reminds me of the real life candy cane lane that was a huge attraction for local "San Diegans" to enjoy.
For those of you who don’t know, growing up in San Diego, I had the pleasure of visiting the re-creation of the North Pole, as we had our own Candy Cane Lane within a neighborhood that was about
4 residential streets where every single house was decorated and they went all out!
Talk about “spared no expense”, it was quite the sight to see!
We would get all dressed up ( so we could be warm ) and bring our favorite holiday beverages, snacks and treats and drive through the neighborhood marveling at the lavish decor.
One of my favorite parts was how every house had its own theme.
I remember one year, one of the homes modeled “It’s A Small World” from Disneyland and had 100s of porcelain dolls in the yard, it was full of glitter and gold lights and had a blanket of snow on top of the grass.
As time went by, the people who owned homes in the neighborhood began to become vocal about the complaints they were receiving that were being reported to the city, as traffic was becoming an issue with the increase in popularity, that coupled with excessive light and gas utility bills, they had started a donation fund to help.
Unfortunately, the city came in and eventually pulled the plug on everything – it was so heartbreaking when we got the news.
I think back to those memories and wish our community could have figured out a way to keep the holiday spirit alive and well so that future generations could enjoy it too.
However, we do have another beautiful holiday tradition in San Diego called: “December Nights”, it’s hosted at our famous Balboa Park.
This is free event that the entire city (and even those who live in Orange County and Los Angeles drive down to experience).
It includes live entertainment, food and retail vendors, a family zone and so much more!
This being our annual festival, you can already imagine how packed it gets, so arriving early to find a good parking space (there is complimentary parking at San Diego City College and The San Diego Zoo) however, be forewarned that those lots fill up quickly.
You can expect to pay between $30 to $45 for parking. It's so worth it since as the night progresses, it gets cold....
And you're gonna want to be there during the evening to view the light show and live entertainment on stage. As the temperature drops to even think about a long cold walk back to your car -- well, you get the picture.
I wouldn't advise you do it.
The food vendors vary from year to year with the price points starting around $12 per item and there are so many cool vendors selling amazing items from art to holiday themed attire.
There are many local sponsors and radio stations that also offer quite a few cool giveaway opportunities.

As you can see we had a blast, so the next time you're in or near San Diego in early December, be sure to bring the family to enjoy "December Nights"

Have your family prepare some yummy holiday beverages and snacks and cozy up in your favorite holiday jammies and blanket, gather by the fireplace as you all enjoy this heartwarming film together.
